Disturbing trend 09-24-08
A few days ago I was reading some news articles stating that the price of crude jumped $25 a barrel to settle at $130 a barrel, largest one day jump... One of those articles was from the associated press dated September 22, 2008. The odd thing about this whole story is if you look at my graph at the bottom of my knet page that shows the current price of sweet crude oil, the graph shows for this largest one day increase in history (09.22.08) was maybe at $108 per barrel..., if that... That is a $22 difference..., rather huge I think. Then I watched the same stores echoed on CTV Newsnet the following day which actually dropped sightly to around $107... What are they going on now..., are they reporting on the bidding and asking price... Just because someone puts out there a ridiculously high bid..., is doesn’t always mean he will get the asking price... When I first read the story.., I thought there was something wrong with my plug in because it wasn’t reflecting this so I went to the various trading sites and nowhere did I find information to support this claim.
When Galveston TX was hit by hurricane Ike, the price of gas went up 15 cents a litre overnight while the price of crude dropped to below $100 per barrel... So what gives.. The price of crude has been dropping steady for months now because “certain” investors that drove up the price to almost $150 a barrel withdrew all there money..., in the billions... When the price of oil were going up..., the news media brought in the various financial specialists from various banks and economists saying it was the world demand is the reason why..., never mentioning these investors... According to them, we should see prices hovering close to $200 a barrel now...
Now I am reading stories about crisis in these financial institutions down in the states... Wasn’t it just in the 90's companies like Bre-X which investors lost all there money then..., companies like Nortel drop from over $100 now trading at a couple of bucks in 2000..., then you have WorldCom lost all there money... It seems now it is the financial institutions... One thing I’ve noticed in this facade..., none of the riches people are ever effected by it..., it is just the average Joe...Any shmuck can be a millionaire but you need billions to manipulate the market like that...
This whole thing is a very disturbing trend.. We’re being played like patsy and we’re watching and believing it. I don’t know what more to say...
Last week of work 09-22-08
Today is the last week of work for me at SLAAMB. Like all things, it has it’s ups..., and downs..., more downs..., and plain old downs... Pretty happy with what I built here and hope I’ll be able to duplicate it again shortly. The days already look shorter to me.. The days will grow shorter and shorter til Christmas.., then things will start picking up again. I think we’re heading into another cold and longer winter. That would make three in a row..., you ask me.., that sounds like a trend... Oh well...
Autumnal Equinox 09-21-08
Today the night and days are equal..., now..., umm..., after today night will be longer than the day which kinda sucks... I like my daylight. Still haven’t gotten around starting on my wood pile. Did put a call in for some wood. Need to spark up that wood stove soon... Was hoping to get that heater in my garage this year but looks like I have to wait another year. Start my new job soon, looking forward to that. Got my Big Red finally..., 20 years a little too late but better late than never. Looking forward to taking that out for a spin. Yup...
Take this job and... 09-18-08
GENEVA (Associate Press) - The world's largest particle collider malfunctioned within hours of its launch to great fanfare, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week. In a statement Thursday, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) reported for the first time that a 30-ton transformer that cools part of the collider broke, forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after starting it up last week.
Umm..., how about that huh..., they considered the project a success because it started up but the celebration seemed to be a little superficial considering now the sucker is off-line. I do wonder what the real reason for it. If they did discover something, it would have been the first hour they were in operation. I knew they wouldn’t... You would think with all the physicists with their PhDs in the “European Organization for Nuclear Research” club..., they would be a little smarter... I know what they are really after..., to manipulate the atom to make different elements like creating gold from silver or other matter. They’re hoping for some truth to Quantum physics... Well buds.., there is only one place in the universe right now that has the energy and the pressure to change the structure of atoms to make other elements and this particle accelerator won’t cut it.
I do find myself asking this one question, am I smarter than all the physicists in the European Organization for Nuclear Research... Maybe I should try and make a particle accelerator / smasher in my garage using a hammer and a batch of homemade hooch like Young Einstein in the movie Young Einstein (1988..., man that was a bad movie). Well if it didn’t work..., I would have the same success as my fellow comrades at CERN but at least I wouldn’t have spent 3.8 billion dollars and have a batch of homemade brew to boot... That’s a win win in my books. If it did..., then I could quit my current job at SLAAMB and say, take this job and..., well..., you know the rest...
Found my game 09-14-08
I was in Thunder Bay this past weekend and drp by the casino on Friday night. I think that I might have found my game..., roulette... If I am going to throw my money away..., it would be on that. Actually I was betting pretty low then decided to go big..., put a hell of a lot of chips on 34..., then it hit and did it ever... We’re not talking thousands and thousands of dollars but I was happy... Most money I won on anything in a very long time...
Before heading back to Sioux..., went to Zellers at County Fair Plaza... It is amazing how things change with time. It just seem like yesterday I was eating at the restaurant where Shoppers Drug Mart is..., eating with Andrew and Graeme when they were just young whipper snappers... The place use to be filled with life..., now kinda depressing... Same with Kesus Mall downtown where the Casino is now... Thinking about The Food Court..., Eatons..., SAANs at the end of the Mall..., then it slowly just went downhill in the 90's to just a parking lot for the Casino.. I remember the last days before it finally went under..., all the vacant space... Now we have these box stores at the Intercity area. I don’t know if we’re any better off... The problem is now..., no matter where you go..., it is always the same junk... When I was in England, Germany or Finland..., you would swear that it was the exact same crap you find here in these Outlet Stores in the city... No matter where you travel..., it is now the same stuff everywhere...
Got thinking about my sister when I was at County Fair..., it was like I was half expecting to see her walking down the hallway with a big smile on her face doing her shopping. I don’t know why she had to jump into that truck... It’s been four years now... Time flies too fast for my liking...
The world didn’t end 09-11-08
Umm..., needless to say but the world did not end yesterday when they sparked up that Large Hadron Collider near Geneva Switzerland..., nor God popping out to say hello nor opening a door to another dimension..., nor making matter from nothing... These scientists were just happy it started... How’s that as a level to set the bar..., yes the project is a success if it starts up... It is just a particle accelerator designed to smash things up...., listening to the whispers of the universe. It’s like trying to hear a butterfly’s wings flap on stage while Metallica are belting out a tune in front of a hundred thousand people. Their logic is if they hear the wings flap..., they can build a model to figure out how sound works.. Why don’t they just listen to the band...
The end of the world today 09-10-08
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) have developed this huge 3.8 billion dollar Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that will go on-line today.. I’ve been following this story for quite some time. Some people say it was spark a black hole that will destroy the Earth..., others say they will find the God particle and God will pop out...., even some say it will open a door to another dimension like the movie “The Mist”... I say this 3.8 billion dollars is a waste of money that could have been spent on more practical experiments.
Electricity and the use of electrons, atoms and protons have been an amazing discovery..., changed the world we live in and humanity forever. We can manipulate so many things now.., use energy that 150 years ago would have been impossible. Our knowledge of science has allowed humans to travel beyond the Earth’s atmosphere which would lead to human’s colonizing other parts of the Milky Way in a few hundred years... How is this Large Hadron Collider that the European Organization for Nuclear Research lend to that. How can this 3.8 billion dollar experiment improve the everyday life of the people of Earth by chasing myth and fantasy. One thing they will eventually realize is the world we live in..., “what you see is what you get”. We are fortunate enough that we live in a relatively stable part of the Milky Way..., a nice little niche in the Orion Arm... Any closer to the centre..., a black hole might gobble us up or a gamma ray burn our planet..., any further out..., we could lack the elements and particles that created life... Why can't we be happy with what we got...
If these subatomic particles could create such things..., well..., our own sun would be emitting it as we speak and what they expect to see should be visible and an everyday occurrence... Idiots..., nerds with just too much time on there hands... Get a life...
The Conservative monster is unleashed 09-08-08
Well our government is dissolve so we’re heading to the polls on October 14, 2008. Both the Block and the Liberal Party are saying that this is the most right-wing..., KKK style...., bible thumping..., gun loving..., red neck government the world has ever witnessed. Didn’t they both say that the last election..., but I guess now they really mean it..., or would they really mean it in the next election..., or the one after that... Both the Block and Liberals have shifted to the right during the past two decades..., and it is the Conservatives that have shifted to the left (I guess from the point they usually stand from). Kinda makes you wonder who is looking after the average person... I am sure if it is a majority Conservative, minority Conservative or minority Liberal (best Liberals can hope for)..., not much is going to change... Government have been cutting programs that effect the average person since the mid 80's... Actually the Liberal party has the worse track record.., more so than the Conservatives..., Brian himself said he could only wish he could cut programs like the Liberals did.... Between the Liberals and the Conservatives..., it is Harper that is the lesser of two evils... I only hope that Jack does well so he could add some checks and balances in there...
Sign of the times 09-07-08
It is the sign of the times..., had to turn on the heat this morning.., man that was some chilly air. We also have a frost warning for tonight..., where did my summer go.
Now that was a speech 09-04-08
That Sarah Palin can shoot a moose in the morning.., buck it up and have it hot and ready for supper that evening..., is there nothing she can’t do... Listening to her speak last night..., wow..., now that was a speech... She has me convinced that the Republican party is the seconding coming. If I was an American, I would be the first in line to cast my ballot. I think Obama’s free ride in the media is over and his novelty is at an end. I was amazed..., she absolutely gave Obama both barrels and did it smiling. The Democrats are toast.., should have stuck with Hilary... Four more years of the Republican party..., what can I say..., they did it to themselves...
Over on this side of the border..., looks like the election will be called in a couple of days. I wonder if the north will vote for the Liberal party again. It is very ironic that one of the main reasons that Roger Valley got re-elected was because of his scare tactics saying the Conservative party were a bunch of racist red-necks. When ever the government did something very positive for Aboriginal people..., it was always the Conservative government that delivered... Odd if you think of it, how can you be a racists red-neck while..., umm....
Let me explain... Look at the residential school payments and the apology..., that was one of the moving words I heard in my life... It was the Tory government that delivered it... The last time any government gave reserve status was a Tory (Federal) and NDP (Provincial) government..., created six new reserves in Ontario. Under Brian Mulroney, they took a lot of the programs controlled by government bureaucrats and placed them in the control of First Nations people. Created places like where I work now. It was John Diefenbaker (Tory) that gave the First Nations people the right to vote and treated us like equals in the eyes of the government.
After John Diefenbaker’s Conservative government was defeated, the Liberals on the other hand created the White Paper which would have eliminated all Aboriginal and Treaty rights right across Canada..., which they tried to do again in 2000... Paul Martin said he supports self-government as long as it follows a municipal model. That’s not a self-government model..., that’s a municipal model. What is it with these guys.. They cut half the program dollars for all the programs we administer to the point we are fighting each other instead of directing it at the government. Dion is from the old Liberal guard in which from behind close doors been trying for years to devise a plan to eliminate the Indian problem. History does have a tendency to repeat itself...
Locally.., Roger Valley had nothing to say about the poor living conditions that half his constituents live in while the Liberals were in power, just towing the company line. The only time when he says anything about half the riding population is when he needs to get re-elected. If you look at all the comments made by Roger Valley concerning First Nations in the House of Commons while in session, , it would be less words than this paragraph from the day he first served as the Kenora representative. What..., is he embarrassed by us..., if he says anything..., is he scared to be branded an Indian lover??? He just fabricates lies for his own benefit. The last election, his office called the northern communities stating if they don’t vote for Roger, they will not get their residential school money. What happened..., the residential schools monies were paid out. How can we trust a liar and only does things for his own self interest who’s career will go nowhere... I do find myself asking who is the racist red-neck here..., actions do speak louder than words...
Bill C-51 and Natural Food Stores 09-02-08
The past couple of days been the hottest all summer. For a while there I thought it wouldn’t stop raining. I think we’re into another long and cold winter..., last one just wouldn’t let up... Snow will fly early this year. I really got to get cracking on my wood soon. Heading back to the city (not referring to the “City of Dryden”, what a joke that name is..., city indeed..., it is a full service community..., a town..., nothing more) in two weeks for Matthew’s B-Day..., a solid whole year for the little guy.
Reading some stuff on Bill C-51 and Natural Food Stores. The government wants to regulate all the natural health food store across Canada making it harder for the average person to gain access. If you ever walk into a Health (Natural) Food Store..., you simply don’t see the same clientele going into a health food store as let’s say a McDonald’s, Burger King or KFC. People shopping at a Health Food store are concerned about one thing..., their health. I ask myself why is the government going to great lengths to regulate an industry that focuses on peoples health while if you consider all the crap these fast food giants put into their food..., why aren’t they trying to regulate them.
Before it use to be cheaper to can your own stuff and make your bread but now there is little price difference between process foods and making the stuff yourself... You would think it would be cheaper since it is from the farmer..., to loading..., to shipping..., to the Supermarket... Any process items need to be shipped to and from the factory..., machinery to manage, fix and operate..., material for packing..., tin for the canning..., union wages for employees..., plus benefits..., just to name a few... For all the food we buy at the Supermarket.., the average farmer gets 4 cents to the dollar... That’s 96 cents in other costs... Makes you wonder if something larger is happening...
Healthy people are bad for business on so many levels. They make all their meals from scratch so they don’t support the process food industry. If you eat right and take care of yourself..., you have a less of a chance of having a stroke, heart attack..., lowers your chances of getting cancer..., less broken bones..., to name a few things.. They need less hospital beds..., less medication..., less therapy..., costing the health care industry billions and billions of dollars in profits. The pharmaceutical companies have the most to lose with a healthy population. How can they supply medication when no one is sick. They can’t..., they’re just protecting their market share..., can we blame them???
Back to school tomorrow 09-01-08
It’s back to school for everyone tomorrow. Isabella will be starting grade 1..., she should do well. Graeme is in Grade 7 this year. Ethan will be heading to daycare..., our sitter is returning back to school. Last day of the long weekend. Spent it with Donna, my mother and Jon. My bro has a nice truck.., sweet ride.
In the beginning of July..., the price of crude oil was 147 per barrel and the price of gas has remained about the same since then but the only difference is the per barrel cost has dropped to about 110... Since Gustav was predicted to hit the Gulf coast..., the price of gas went up about 12 cents a litre but the price of crude went up a couple of bucks... This is what I don’t get..., now the price of gas is higher than what is was when crude was 147 per barrel in July and the price of crude dropped almost 40 dollars since then... What are they now bases there pricing on..., what ever they can get away with. Oh well...
The real problem now is the media.., how much influence they have on peoples opinions. Before and while America went into Iraq..., most people were saying that pretty well that Saddam Hussen was just about the anti-Christ that was going to take over the west..., had nuclear arms..., partnership with Qaeda..., etc..., etc... Even to this day..., many media outlets in th States still claim this to be true.., others are just ignoring it..., hoping what they said won’t be remembered by anyone. It was the media they swayed people’s opinion to invade Iraq and look at the harm it has done to that Nation.
Just a few years back in Ontario when the NDP was trying to create a public insurance company. There was this huge media and advertising campaign saying if Ontario went to public insurance..., Ontario would have the highest premiums in Canada..., blah..., blah.., blah... Now the cheapest insurance premiums belong to the provinces that has public insurance.. The people in the province of Ontario believed the media claiming that we would end up with the highest insurance premiums have them now... This just recently happened to Hilary Clinton..., she was going to bring in universal healthcare for the American people. Obama came out of nowhere.., saying he would deliver on affordable healthcare (thus saving corporate America who are heavily invested in the Healthcare industry)..., volia..., media turns on Hilary while Obama got a free ride...He is just a sellout..., he’ll do anything for himself and nothing for anyone else.
That is how much power the media has right now..., they’ll do any story..., and people believe them so blindly... Everything from gas to healthcare.., they’ll get the masses to believe whatever spin they put out there. The problem we are going to run into in the future is that our population is still growing..., for every 1.5 people that pass away..., 4.8 people are being born. Our planet can not sustain that type of growth forever. When we hit the top of that bell curve..., we will hit it hard. My question is when that happens..., will we still be stupid enough to believe the media spin... If that happens..., natural selection will have it’s way with us...
Fall Election 08-29-08
It looks like we’re heading into an early fall election. Umm..., not sure what to make of this one. I think the liberals and block are toast while the NDP has the most to gain. I am not too sure what to make of the Green Party. From all the material I read from them, they’re all rich conservative armchair environmentalists not connected to reality. They don’t care about healthcare, infrastructure or any other issue that is important to the average person. All they want is their huge tax breaks to protect their investments and no one to enter the bush except them..., we should all relocate to urban centres and become vegans.. As far as I am concern..., they have too much money and time on their hands...
Locally I am wondering how Roger Valley’s campaign will look like. I know last election the liberal party put auto dialers to good use. They phone a good portion of the northern communities telling them if they don’t vote liberal the Conservative Government will not pay you the residential settlement. The opposite has actually happened..., not only did they payout..., they have one of the best speeches I heard in my life. Someone need to remind everyone that what Roger did and he is a man that can not be trusted... The liberal party had 13 years to apologize and payout but did nothing. It was just a carrot..., nothing more. Besides...., all he will do is tow the company line..., nothing more. We have no voice in Ottawa....
This weekend is the last long weekend of the summer. It is already starting to get cool. This summer I rate fair..., not too good..., not too bad..., in the middle. Took my first personal vacation (trip wise) in years..., like over 15 years... Last one was Oklahoma in 93... It’s too bad I didn’t get to see my bro in T.O. Next time I guess... Time to get cracking on that wood...
Happy Birthday Graeme 08-28-08
I want to wish Graeme a HAPPY BIRTHDAY..., today is his first day as a teenager..., holy molly eh... Wishing you the best!!! Lessons learnt today..., DO NOT eat a sandwich that has been out all day and especially if it was hot enough to melt the cheese inside the bread not matter how hungry you are. Finally got around to setting up my computer to link up with the new server. Now to get back into developing more web pages..., yup...
Ontario Teacher’s Pension Fund 08-27-08
Umm..., not only has the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Fund has made a monkey of the Toronto Maple Leafs..., now they’re up to their old tricks again with Maple Leaf Foods..., but this is kinda a serious one... Maybe these teachers should do what they do best..., teach... There is an old saying..., “those who can’t do..., teach...” I guess this should apply to their management abilities too..., teach how to manage but leave the managing to others. I wonder what other holdings they have in the market place. Note to any investors out there..., if the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Fund has controlling interest in a company you have stock in..., pull it out or kiss you money goodbye.
Getting back to reality after my holidays...., summer is almost over too. Ethan will be heading to daycare...., Isabella back to school. I need to get cracking on getting wood for another long and cold winter. I think this winter will be colder and longer than the one we had last year. Goes to say that I haven’t heard much media talk on global warming lately..., guess after this winter it will be global cooling and the things we need to do to warm it up. I knew it was too good to last.
Home at last 08-25-08
Home at last after a couple of weeks on the road. Spent a couple of days in Constance Lake. Learnt that the Visitors Centre in Constance Lake is closed..., because they don’t have any operational funds to keep it open. I just wonder what happened with all the talk about this monstrous RV traffic rolling through that would cover all the O & M and then some. Time to write my Chief a letter...
So anyways..., vacation was good. Seen some old buds in Mattice. That Stephan has a nice studio in his home. Time for me to buy a set of drums. Drop in on Gary in Mattice..., then off to Kingston... After a short visit with Curt, Tina and family..., drove back via the States... Umm..., I figure the best way to get American pricing is actually going to the States to get American pricing... Frig..., I am not going to support stores that keep their prices high while they save on inventory... Seen Millie and Tom in Duluth..., that’s about it... Burnt 672 litres of gas... Oh..., finally got those dumbbell handles that hold 9 plates on each side... When I bought them, the lady said they sell those sizes to Kingston Pen. My question is what kind of monsters are they growing in there...
Is there any hope for humanity? 08-13-08
Just getting the final preparations ready for the holidays..., it seems the plans are changing with each minute. Something will happen..., not sure what thou... Bannock Bob’s SLAAMBer’s feel like they got gyp. I personally feel like we got ripped off big time. There should be more professionalism with the bannock bake off and I am writing a letter to the International Headquarters for Bannock Making in Scotland to do something about it. See if this bannock making committee is sanction or not. How can someone burn their bannock and win..., I just don’t know...
Hmm..., on other news..., Britney Spears is coming out with a new CD... Holy crap eh...., after making a fool out of herself in front of the media she still thinks she can sell..., umm..., well..., if she does..., there is no hope for humanity because we’re all friggen idiots... If she doesn’t..., there could be light at the end of our tunnel...
Happy Birthday Isabella 08-06-08
I want to wish Isabella a very Happy Birthday, the little princess is 6 years old today. How time flies... I also want to wish Dawn a good one as well...
Bannock Bake off at 2:00 pm, town beach 08-01-08
The Bannock Bob’s SLAAMBers are all ready to rumble and take the Health Authority Kokum’s to school. Matthew has the wood, Genny the Flour / Blueberry Jam, Adelaide the experience, Trish the butter, Ziggy the frying pan / klik and beans, Joanne with the platters, Jemima with the smiles and I’ll be there with the chilly piping hot. Just look for the Huge Sponge Bob and Patrick Balloons at our table. The only thing we don’t have is our Sandy Lake bannock baking ringer..., he’s in Deer today. We’re baking two bannocks; plain and raisin with some healthy deep fried bannock to keep that cholesterol up. Just remember to bring that spare artery you have laying around the house.
Update on Bannock Bob’s SLAAMBers 07-29-08
With only a couple of more days til the Bannock Bake Off, the SLAAMBers seem a little disorganized. Perhaps the knowledge that the Health Authority Kokum’s have begun their prep work weeks ago deterred the SLAAMBers from getting off the ground. The captain of the SLAAMBers was unavailable for comment but SLAAMB insiders has assured that the SLAAMBers will be present at the Bannock Bakeoff, they just need flour, salt, lard, baking powder and a frying pan. Stay tuned for updates...
Summer plans made 07-24-08
The days already seem to be getting shorter and still waiting for my summer to bring. Maybe better luck next year or the year after that..., or after that... I think this warming trend is actually switching to a cooler one... Like the seasons.., our planet has it’s cool and warm cycles..., just that some of us are not smart enough to see it.
Irregardless..., have my summer plans made. Heading out to Calstock on the 15th and 16th of August. From there..., off to Timmins to spend the day..., then Kingston. I still have four day passes at the gym over there. Wanna use them up. Spend the day with my bro Pete if he answers my email..., then back home via the States... Should be ok... Haven’t seen Ken or Gary in ages..., same with other members of my family.
Spend the evening with the Graeme cracker last night. Good to see the guy is doing well with his hockey school. I am really proud of the man is be becoming. He has so much artistic talent that I can’t even understand how he is able to produce what he produces. It’s like magic watching him just taking a simple pencil and paper to make a master piece. Eva, Donna and Pat are good artists but I think even now Graeme is beyond them.
The return of Bannock Bob’s SLAAMBers 07-23-08
Bannock Bob SLAAMBers will be back to take on the Kokum’s in the Bannock Bake Off on August 1st, 2008 at the Blue Berry Festival . Word has gotten back to the SLAAMBers that the Kokum’s are already in preparation mode. This year our goal is not to buy our firewood from Walmart the night before but to buy it a couple days ahead of time. Bannock Bob has also hired a ringer from Sandy Lake so Kokum's beware. Stay tuned for updates...
Wouldn't that make a great novel 07-17-08
Thinking more on Dave’s Gas Bar and making my own gasoline from aliphatic hydrocarbon chains... Plants like grass, corn and all trees are great at converting carbon, water and sunlight into hydro-carbon chains. No one does it better but those chains are pretty short, no doubt about that. We’re having a lot of problems converting those short chains into longer ones like the ones in ethanol fuel but you know who does a great job of converting those short little chains into something longer..., US!!!.. What are those long hydro carbon chains called???, FAT.
We all have it, some more than other. People pay thousands of dollars to get all those long hydro carbon chains removed from there body by liposuction. The way I figure it..., if I change a fraction of what a professional liposuctionerist (cosmetic surgeons) and open up my own shop, voila..., I have a huge pool of long hydro carbon chains. Just add a little more heat and pressure..., crap..., I have ethanol fuel... I could buy the Kingdom Hall on Sturgeon Road in Sioux..., call it Dave’s Kingdom Hall..., buy a shop vac then I am all set. My moto would be..., “Come as you are but leave as someone else”..., or something like “Why exercise and diet, we have your band-aid”.
Our philosophy would be simple..., we are not hear to judge but encourage you to live as you want to live and eat what you want to get. Gain a few extra pounds.., we’ll take it off for you in a matter of hours.. Why spend months in a gym and eating grass all the time when you could eat some deep fried chicken with fries..., but imagine eating all that without the guilt. I think there is a huge market for that. They say half the world population is now fat so that is a resource of 3.25 billion people to draw on. The potential..., two birds with one stone.
Umm..., wouldn’t that make a great novel... Someone like Margaret Atwood could turn it around but instead of eating homeless and old people..., making gas out of them. Stephan King would have a black van driving around kidnaping fat people. He would go into great deal describing the method they use to extract the fat.., like a good old rusty chainsaw thundering away while the guy shrieks in pain then the silence as the van drives off in a trail of blood. George Orwell would have big brother doing the evil deed. Robert Ludlum would have the CIA conspiring with corporate America trying to get people to eat more. Our hero delves into the mystery, then soon realizes it goes strait to the top. Once he kills the president..., he finds out that he was only a puppet being black mailed by the evil Iranian government because they ran out of oil twenty years ago but now the number one supplier. Once killing the whole entire Iranian army with his bare hands avoiding machine gun fire, surface to missiles, finds out the mistress he was sleeping with named Chela is actually the right hand person behind it all. Kills her with the final scene of the evil genius falling into a huge vat of fat, grabs our hero’s leg..., both fall in. Once we think both of them drowned..., our hero swims out. Now we're paying 10 dollars a litre for gas..., before it fades to black, a silhouette of a dark figure who actually is behind it all..., leaves the edge of the window to sit as his desk..., yup...
It feels like fall 07-13-08
How about that huh..., feeling like fall already..., where the frig was my summer. Talk about a gyp. I hit a couple of more buckets the other day. Now I am thinking that I should work with my slice instead of fighting it. A couple of good things..., it is consistent but the biggest thing is the spin it has... It has so much spin that when that ball hits the ground..., it rolls further than if I hit that sucker right on..., which adds more distance to my drive. The only downfall is when I don’t slice it..., well..., that ball is lost in the woods.
Some good news from the Neegan front..., Whitney will be expecting in the coming months. I am very happy for Whitney and wish Verna was around to be a grandmother. Graeme and Andrew are up north of Nipigon staking some claims for the summer. Good experience for the both of them. Poplar Point First Nation is in the news. Guess the Chief of Gull Bay has some issues with them. Talk about Indians fighting Indians. They were complaining that their band office is a store front... Crap isn’t Gull Bay’s band office located at a store front in Thunder Bay right by the casino. They have their whole administration office in Thunder Bay. You tell me how that is benefitting the people of Gull Bay. They should look in their own backyard before complaining about Poplar Point. Of course since their band members are from different bands. That is no different than Poplar Hill, Keewaywin, Aroland, Hornepayne or any other band that wasn’t originally a signature to the treaty. All those bands were members of other First Nations before they started. If that’s the case, he has issues with more than half the bands in Canada. You would think with someone with an education would be smarter.
Wanted 07-10-8
You know what..., if I was going out with Jennifer Aniston and had a chanced to go out with Angelia Jolie, I would dump her too. Wanted had to be one of the best movies I've seen this year. Still in the Bay..., hit a bucket of balls yesterday. Damn, when is that slice gonna go away. What a world..., what a world. Heading back to the land of Sioux tomorrow. Try to get in 9 holes at Chapels before I head out. Bought the first three seasons of the X-Files. Now I have 3,000 minutes of the X-files to watch while I'm working out. I need to get my DNS numbers changed tomorrow or I will have some serious down time on my web sites..., umm..., revamp them too. Had some wings at Up in Smoke this evening..., those are some serious hot wings..., burn your ass when you crap wings... You need the milk and the garlic toast to chomp them down with them but you have to specify that you want the burn your ass wings aka extreme or they won't give it to you. They'll think you're just an average Joe... If you can down them, you'll really feel the burn again the next day, guaranteed. Yup...
Watched the fireworks 07-03-08
We watched the fireworks yesterday in Sioux. It was actually ok but parked too close, should have parked at the rail station or sat down with the drunks at Centennial park. Nothing new and exciting at Sioux. We are still managing to get a sh*t load of rain. It’s been either raining or snowing for more than 6 months now. Another 6 months of this weather, we’ll be into X-mas. The price of oil is going up and up. On one hand you have the oil producers saying there is enough supply in the market place while others (investors) saying there isn’t enough. I think it is just one big scam that is involving the whole world. You must have a lot of power and influence to pull a scam like that off.
Umm..., yes I believe in Aliens but I am leaning more towards the astro-biologist thinking rather than the yahoos on the Discovery and Learning Channels. I can’t believe some of the crap they put on those channels. After more than ten years after those guys admitted to creating those crop circles that people are saying they are aliens.. Worse yet..., putting those nut cases on the air.., giving them a whole hour no less... If that’s not bad enough..., people watching these shows in great enough numbers to warrant the creation of these programs, investing in them..., and getting a return on the dollar. It’s no wonder how these oil tycoon’s are able to get away with murder..., look who is watching the helm.
If life gives you lemons 06-27-08
A few more days and that’s it for the month of June..., holy moly... Got some training on life skills coaching last week. I actually have a problem with the words “Life Skills Coaching”. What is a life skill..., what comes to mind for me is basically avoiding dying by eating..., sleeping..., drinking..., crapping..., and trying not to get run over by crossing the street... Guess some people in our society have life skill problems..., the homeless and the dead but that’s about it. The rest of us just have bad habits and depending on those habits..., determines the quality of our life... So this training was geared to assist people with bad habits and get them employed... Umm..., oh..., we are suppose to make them feel better too... Guess if someone comes to my office (if I had an office) and has a problem, I am suppose to say "if life gives you lemons, make lemon aid". Guess it is suppose to make the person feel better or something. It is universal too..., whatever the problem..., grieving..., loss of job..., separation..., divorce..,house burnt down and lost your dog... "if life gives you lemons..., blah..., blah.., blah...", then viola..., problem solved.
Everyone is done with school. Everyone is moving up a grade which is good. Graeme Cracker is now in the City of Thunder Bay.. Andrew got an award the other week..., so he made the Sioux Bulletin and now CBC wants to chat with Andrew. He is quite the celebrity now. Isabella and Ethan are good. It’’s too bad I didn’t get to see Robert this summer..., Eva’s little guy.
More and more rain..., it just keeps on coming... It could be worse I guess... We could be like down in the States where whole communities are under water. What could you say to a person who just lost their whole livelihood..., house..., everything... I guess I have to revert to my training on life skills coaching..., if life gives you lemons..., make lemon aid..., or in this case..., if God gives you a flood..., go fishing...
First day of summer 06-21-08
Summer is finally here but it certainly doesn’t feel like it. It was nice to have those four days of sun but it seems the rain is back. Went to Dryden yesterday... Holy man that was quite the trip.., got pulled over by the cops.. Talk about harassment asking me where I come from and where I was going..., I had to justify my actions. I questioned why does he need to know that..., he simple put that he is monitoring criminal activity.. I accused him of racial profiling but he says he does that to everyone.. Yeah right..., it was 1:00 in the afternoon..., what reason does he have besides the colour of my skin to think I am a criminal. F*ck’n asshole... Well..., gotta think how I am going to pursue this...
Aboriginal Day!!! 06-20-08
Well actually tomorrow is Aboriginal Day..., just today most Native organizations have the day off.. (I guess the Native organizations with Native staff) The ones who don’t I recommend you write to your chiefs. Just remember.., they are the true boss...., not administrators..., even thou they act like it... (it’s all in their head). Today I am off to Dryden, knock a bucket of balls around, buy a weed wacker then finish up on my grass. It’s funny we never come around to have an organized religion
Father’s Day Golf Tourney 06-16-08
Played in Father’s Day Golf Tournament yesterday... The weather kinda sucked but it’s been sucking for a very long time now. Hard to believe that in five days the summer solstice will be here marking the longest day of the year. I am sure it would warm up if the sun had an opportunity to do it’s job. So anyways we kinda kept up to pace with the leaders after nine... We were only a couple of stokes back which would have gave us second. At the tenth, Lyle saved par with an amazing shot. Even after 13, we were ok.., fell behind a stoke or two but was still doing half decent... At 14..., we bursted at the seams... The last four holes we fell from ok, to so so, to dead last... How about that huh... Ohh...., got some nice gifts yesterday for father’s day...
Watched Indiana Jones again this past weekend. The show was actually pretty good but at the end I was waiting for Fox Mulder to jump out somewhere. Best show I’ve seen so far this year. That 2001: A Space Odyssey was the best classic I’ve seen in a while. Crap that Hal is such an insecure computer..., what moron programmed Hal anyways. Finally got around to watching SAW IV..., not bad..., so we have a new Jigsaw... Yup...
umm 06-13-08
Another day, another dollar.. I can’t imagine when someone worked for a day and got a dollar. Today is Friday the 13th..., umm..., yup..., next one is February 2009... Wow.., soon enough will be 2010..., crap eh...
Reading some articles on what the leadership had to say about the apology. I still think that this was the best thing that was done since the Royal Proclamation of 1763. If it wasn’t for that sucker..., we would have lost all our rights in 1968 and the Liberal’s would have finally address the Indian problem but anyways.. There has been so much negativity coming out of the House of Commons that this thing is the real first positive message since we actually got the right to vote and considered a “people” under Canadian Law. Ohh..., there was that “Statement of Political Relationship” that was signed up on Mckay in 1992 but nothing really became of that. I can’t even fine one article on looking through the world wide web..., so we see how much of an impact that agreement had...
Sooner or later, we have to take some responsibility..., we control our own destiny..., not the Canadian government... By blaming the government and saying the government needs to get us out of this mess without saying we too had a part in what happened to our people..., we let the government control our fate..., then we lose...
I control my own destiny..., not the government...
It was good 08-12-08
Listening to the apology that Prime Minister Harper was moving..., he hit it right on the button. I think June 11 is a historic day. I am glad someone finally came up to the plate and said something. It has been a long time coming. Of all the negativity that has come out of the House of Commons directed at Indian people..., this is one of the biggest things that has come out that was positive..., an acknowledgment that their actions had a negative impact on Aboriginal peoples..
It is a good first step but if you really think about the all the injustices that was directed at Indian people.., it only touches the surface. There is so much more but the residential school was one of the cornerstone of addressing Canada’s Indian problem. It is a good first step...
The irony 06-08-08
Looks like a half decent day out there for a change. I heard that T-Bay got walloped by rain..., just glad it wasn’t here. So it’s been more than a year doing IT at SLAAMB. Who would have ever thought I would be doing IT but stranger things have happened.. My big boss over there has to be one of the few directors holding a degree in Human Resources... It’s no wonder the delivery of the SLAAMB dollars is a finely tuned machine. What I admire the most is his ability to hire his own people from the area. Of all the directors out there, he is the only one who does that.
So reading more and more articles on the apology the Residential School Survivors are going to get from the government. We Indian people seem to be “afraid” of the Conservative party but under the Liberals.., never once did they try to say we’re sorry during the 15 years they were in power. Under the Conservatives..., we got new reserves..., right to vote..., more power to administer our program and services..., and now an apology that no other government has delivered. The Liberals gave us the White Paper saying were just visible minority..., how racists is that??? We signed over all this land which generates billions and billions of dollars per year for a few measly rights and the Liberals wanted to take them away.., crap... Too boot.., they tried it again in early 2000..., trying to make First Nations fit the Municipal model... Our treaty rights seem to be better protected under the Conservatives... Ironic huh...
Hottest summer yet 06-06-08
According to scientists and weather experts, they say that this summer will be the hottest yet... They say, the only time it was hotter was 4.56 billion years ago when the sun, earth and other objects from the solar system spewed from the last Supernova which was at 600 million degrees Kelvin. According to UN scientists.., the last Supernova was so hot, it would not only fry your egg on the pavement but rearrange the atoms and make higher elements from the Carbon in the egg to Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon to even Iron and Gold..., but the jump to Lead, Rodon and Uranium would be silly. UN scientists now recommend that people use a sun screen with a SPF rating of a 1000 which is basically a lead suit lined with Fibrous Refractory Composite Insulation Tiles which is used by the space shuttle for re-entry.
Anyone wanting to make an easy million bucks 06-05-08
At the Roy Lane they gave a name to the coffee I always buy, it’s called the “red eye”. I think I was a little harsh on the Roy Lane. Before when I use to buy my dark roast with a shot of espresso, they charged me a large coffee and the shot. Then I asked the owner why am I paying for a large when you put the espresso in there..., it is more of a medium than a large so you should charge me for a medium coffee and an espresso..., blah..., blah..., blah..., now the “red eye” is $2.50. They have my loyalty...
SAAN’s is closing it’s doors in Sioux pretty soon. Kinda sad.. Guess they were originally an army surplus store that started in Winnipeg around 1947..., or Surplus Army, Airforce, Navy..., hence the name SAAN. No more SAAN..., another company hitting the dust because of Walmart. Remember Steadman’s, K-Mart, Kreske’s..., Woolworth’s..., Eaton’s..., now all things of the past...
Anyone wanting to make an easy million bucks..., well..., here is your chance.. Bushnell, along with "Field & Stream" magazine, have teamed up to offer $1 million to anyone who can provide an unaltered photograph/video, verified and substantiated by a panel of scientific experts, the evidence required to prove a Sasquatch/Bigfoot/Yeti exists. . Sounds like easy cash to me.. Do it now because it ends December 15, 2008... I remember this one time people from Gull Bay were seeing Big Foot around the community in the early 1990's.. So Phil wanted to make a doc out of it so we bought a gorilla suit and drove up to Gull Bay to film me running around the bush in the gorilla suit... Nothing really came of it. Wonder where that suit is now...
Has it been that long 6-04-08
Has it been that long that Karaoke show been on the air..., seven whole years... I thought that American Idiot..., oppss.., I meant Idol would have fizzled out by now. Who would have thought Karaoke would have been such a hit. I could never get into it. You have so many talented musicians who play a multitude of instruments who sing flawlessly who never see the light of day while these clowns get instant stardom for holding a tune. Well at least for the most part, most of them are not tone deaf.
So Hilary didn’t get the votes. It was a long time coming thou but I am glad she stuck to her guns and didn’t sell out. She fought the man (not referring to Obama) and lost. Next time I hear any American whine about Health Care..., well..., you had your chance to make a difference and as a whole didn’t do squat. I bet yah that a lot of people are whining in Fort Severn after the store closed. When the Kakekaspan clan was running the store..., the prices were cheaper than Keewaywin. Even thou their store kept the prices at the Northern very low, the community members gave the majority of their business to the Northern. The day the store closed, the prices went up 50% to 100% in an instant at the Northern. Now everyone is crying foul but they only have themselves to blame. The only people I have empathy for in Fort Severn is the people who tried to make that store work and their supporters..., everyone else.., you got what you deserve...
Kinda makes you wonder if us Indians had an Obama character running for any office.., would we do the same as the black community in the States or would we do as we always do..., drag the sucker down before he had a chance.. This almost sounds like something that Charles went through when trying to run for the Liberal party in the Kenora riding... If us Indians supported him.., that guy could have been the first Indian cabinet minister but now he is selling light bulbs. One thing for sure..., there is no shortage of whining but a huge shortage of trying to do something about it...
A Space Odyssey 6-03-08
Finally got around to watching that epic of a movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey. This sucker was written and made into a movie in 1968. I guess back then 2001 seemed like some distant futuristic epoch flying off to the moons of Jupiter... Even that Space 1999 show having a base on the moon. In reality in 2008 we trying to figure out how to make the 3 year flight to Mars then come back... Crap..., we haven’t been to the moon in more than 30 years...., December 9, 1972 was the last time... At least now we have a space station up there floating around the Earth’s Thermosphere but that’s it...
Where’s my hover car or my three day work week with more leisure time to do the things I want to do... They say now we’re working more hours than we ever did before. The standard 40 hour work week is now for some people..., like 60 to 70 hours but we don’t get paid for those extra hours we put in..., that’s just to keep up with the workload from your buddy who just got laid off for the sake of the “shareholders”... I still think of that commercial that aired a couple of years ago of this new Microsoft product that will save the company millions of dollars.. Then you see all the employees participating in a aerobics class.. Yeah right..., as if those idiots would be doing that..., like the “company” would keep them on for no reason at all..
Which kinda gets me going..., Obama..., sure he’s black..., blah..., blah..., blah..., but when asked about Health Care..., he said affordable Healthcare for all... Hilary has been consistently pushing for universal health care... Affordable healthcare is what the Republicans under Nixon pushed for and is the system still in place... You would think with over half the population in the States needing universal healthcare Hilary would be a shoe in instantly... This would save a average family thousands of dollars and not to mention the grief... Only a fraction truly benefit from the system currently in place... Because Obama would save these pharmaceutical, health insurance and the overall Health industry billions of dollars, the media turned on Hilary like a pitbull on a poodle. It’s like how the unions turned against Bob Rae in the early 90's and look what happened... We only have ourselves to blame... That is the world we live in..., blind and ignorant to everything... (but I still want my hover car..., where is my hover car)
Happy Birthday Ethan 05-30-08
I want to wish the “Big E” a happy birthday today..., the little guy is getting up there with a solid 1096 days of existence.. Not bad for the little whipper snapper... Listening to these woman sending their panties to Burma..., I don’t know who is the more foolish..., the Burma leaders who fear these panties will zap their power or the woman sending their panties... I say it is a tie.. Not too much planned for the weekend. Would like to get some fishing in..., make some dandelion wine..., fix up the yard a bit more..., finishing cleaning up my garage and get those rotors and brakes replace...
Lottie and Peter Bird Memorial Family Gathering on August 14 to 18, 2008 - 05-14-08
Pat seems to be moving forward with his Lottie and Peter Bird Memorial Family Gathering on August 14 to 18, 2008. It is just too bad we couldn’t do anything like this when Kokum was alive. Graeme did a school project on Mooshum (Peter Bird). Found out more interesting things about this man. He did a lot of good things in his life..., he was a man a vision and principle... We should get that school named after him... That is the same weekend when NAN has their Chiefs meeting. The last time it was there..., Ben was elected the big cheese..., the Grand Chief... How time flies...
Been reading more on our treaties and thinking. In the Treaty 9 it clearly states our rights as Indians..., hunt..., fish..., and trap as long as it doesn’t interfere with logging..., mining..., farming or settlements... There is something in there also education being paid for..., yadda.., yadda.., yadda..., but that is about it. There is nothing in there about collecting royalties..., duty to consult..., etc...
The problem we have as Indian people is that we want our cake and eat it too... If we disagree with the treaty our grandfathers signed..., then we should scrap it... Our Chiefs and Councils..., political leaders..., including our unelected political leaders which we refer to as Executive Directors (because they act like it but not accountable to anyone) and so forth and so forth..., should say..., we as Native people do not support the treaty so therefore breaking all ties with the government... It sounds simple enough but they would never do it because they all depend on the Canadian and Provincial Government for their livelihoods... A lot of there guys are living high off the hog disagreeing with the government..., do you think they would give that up??? Status quo works for these guys..., but if it was me..., I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment..., I would give that all up in the hopes someday my kids and their kids would have a land they can call home...
Toss her back 05-13-08
It is hard to believe the cold and wet spring we’re having. Just to think I let my stove go out yesterday so the good old oil furnace is supplying the heat. Thank God for that wood stove, I can’t imagine what the heating bill would look like in a month like January.
Brenda Martin is alive and free... This is what I don’t get..., this woman worked less than a year as a cook. Her boss said she was drunk half the time yet when she was let go..., she was given a severance of $25,000... Doesn’t that seem suspicious to anyone??? The world where I come from.., that is unheard of... Now she is parading across every media outlet like a movie star.., playing the poor victim of a huge conspiracy..., but not one person asked her how much money did she get from her boss... If they did..., like me..., some red flags would go up... I could pretty much guess that she did something to get that $25,000 from her boss and it is a good chance that it has to do with what he did to defraud millions from investors.. As far as I am concerned..., she should be back in jail for fraud... Her excuse is like me getting caught with carrying a large amount of drugs..., saying that I was just holding it for a friend... It wouldn’t work in my case..., so why should it work for hers..., toss her back...
My winter wonderland is melting 28-04-08
It is pretty warm out there today.. Hard to believe just last Friday all the snow melted, now it is covered in 15 plus inches of snow... How about that huh so my winter wonderland is melting quick. Should be gone by the end of the week. Installing Windows Server 2008 on SLAAMB’s server... Had problems partitioning the hard drive... The sucker was suppose to be sliced in half..., 250 GB each but when I put on Windows..., the son of a b*tch said I only had 11.4 GB to play with... I ask myself what the f*ck happened to the other 238.6 GB... I will never know I guess because I have the newest verison... It should make a difference... ( I can only hope!!!)
Troubles in my homeland 04-25-08
It seems that there seems to be trouble brewing in my homeland of Mattice, Ontario. I guess the town wants to kick the last Indian remands out of the town. The only welcome Indians are the ones buried six feet under which the town uses for tourism. Anyone traveling on Highway 11 through Mattice will see a sign on the west sides saying “Old Native Burial Site” where people can stop off and have a picnic on graveyards of my ancestor's. I can’t imagine going to any graveyard and grabbing a snack while my kids run around climbing on tombstones but it is acceptable behavior for the Municipally of Mattice.
The town is looking to take over the last two remanding houses in Mattice which is in the area where the old community use to live. When my grandparents and father days..., the town refused to grant any more building permits where the old community use to be saying it was a flood plain but as soon as they got the lots.., the town constructs a building over there and did some major development. Now the last two lots..., they want to expand the old age home... Don’t they have another side to build on..., why there.. It is because we own those lots...
Mattice use to house a major Indian community... Stories from my grandmother told of huge families living in the town. After Treaty Nine was signed..., people were interested in the area so the Indian agent shipped everyone off.. People who stayed were treated harshly by the Indian agent. Over the years the community shrunk to my grandparents... After they moved on it was mainly my parents and Fred. Once all my brothers and sisters we all finished highschool.., we all moved on to college and university..., then my mother got a job in Timmins... After my father passed..., it was only Fred.. Ken lived in Calstock, Gary in Kap... and Grandparents in Timmins. Most of my second cousins moved on in the late 60's and early 70's... Something has to be done to stop this..., this place is the last of the roots of the one huge Aboriginal community of Ojibway and Crees.. Going through all the material on-line about Mattice..., it does not mention anything about the Aboriginal community once there.. Yup..., time to step up to the plate...
Happy Birthday Penny 04-24-08
I want to wish Penny a happy birthday...., she is umm..., she is..., let’s say older today... Pat is celebrating the big 4-0 today... It is cold and wet in Sioux today but not as chilly as Pikangikum.., that was some cool weather. Snowing in Red Lake..., winter storm warming..., imagine that..., holy crap...
Earth Day - 04-22-08
Today is Earth Day..., where we celebrate living on Earth..., I guess... Maybe I should read a little on it first... Hmm..., it seems we are not really celebrating living on Earth but...., it is more of an environmental thing..., blah..., blah.., blah..., carbon this and carbon that.., umm.., yadda..., yadda.., yadda..., save the Earth from the evils of carbon... I think I get the gist of it... So it isn’t a celebration..., no wonder I didn’t get the day off...
One thing I wish these “environmentalist” would educate themselves on the environment and what it really killing it... It isn’t plastic bags floating around or carbon.., it is the toxic crap they put on farm fields and herbicidal spray they kill the trees with plus the waste these factories put in our streams... It isn’t carbon what we have to worry about..., it is the toxins that effect every living organism..., but we’re too busy chasing these corporate red herrings that spew this info from the national media... What people just can’t grasp is that carbon dioxide only represents a fraction of one percent of all gases in our atmosphere.. There is 30 times more argon than carbon dioxide..., that’s how small it represents but supposedly it is frying up the Earth... The math does not add up.
I am sure if they Earth could speak.., it would say get a brain you friggen idiots..., focus... I am glad one person gets it..., Chief Eddie from Saugeen... They are actually taking the government to court on the herbicidal spraying happening in their area... They see the wasteland left behind. Where is the media attention on that or environmentalist..., it is non existent..., too busy chasing the wind...
Case in point..., just finished watching the CTV Newsnet... These two scientists from NASA were on talking about Earth Day and talking about global warming..., then the anchor asked them how do they know that man (humans I guess she meant) was the cause... These two scientists said there are thousands of pages of evidence..., rising sea levels..., ice shelf retreating..., but they did not answer the question..., how do you know that we are the cause of this global warming... If there was any evidence..., they could have said that each tonne of carbon dioxide released in the atmosphere holds X amount of thermal energy (heat) thus global warming... All these idiots said was it was getting warmer.., yeah..., we already know that you idiot..., she asked..., how do you know we are the cause moron.., listen to the question... I would like to know which book of matches where these guys got their papers from to call themselves scientists...
Treaty Nine 04-21-08
Just reading some stuff on Treaty Nine..., interesting stuff... Read it a long time ago when I was at LU but not lately. It is strange how time changes your perspective on things... There are two parts of this document that interests me. I am still amazed that we signed this thing but who knew what it really meant. It is like the wife of late Tim Horton when she sold her share for a mere one million bucks..., now that sucker is worth billions.. I am sure a million dollars was a lot of money in 1973 but invested wisely like in a business like Tim Hortons..., well.., it would be worth billions...
Treaty Nine, 2nd paragraph - “And, whereas, the said Indians have been notified and informed by His Majesty's said commission that it is His desire to open for settlement, immigration, trade, travel, mining, lumbering, and such other purposes as to His Majesty may seem meet, a tract of country, bounded and described as hereinafter mentioned, and to obtain the consent thereto of His Indian subjects inhabiting the said tract, and to make a treaty and arrange with them, so that there may be peace and good-will between them and His Majesty's other subjects, and that His Indian people may know and be assured of what allowances they are to count upon and receive from His Majesty's bounty and benevolence.”
Treaty Nine, 12th paragraph - "And with a view to show the satisfaction of His Majesty with the behaviour and good conduct of His Indians, and in extinguishment of all their past claims, He hereby, through His commissioners, agrees to make each Indian a present of eight dollars in cash."
Umm..., yup..., we gave them the green light for mining, forestry, immigration.., well.., what we really did was sold the farm for eight bucks, four bucks a year after that plus one square mile per family of four..., oh..., plus to hunt, trap and fish whenever we want on this surrendered piece of land.
Treaty Nine, 8th paragraph - “And His Majesty the King hereby agrees with the said Indians that they shall have the right to pursue their usual vocations of hunting, trapping and fishing throughout the tract surrendered as heretofore described, subject to such regulations as may from time to time be made by the government of the country, acting under the authority of His Majesty, and saving and excepting such tracts as may be required or taken up from time to time for settlement, mining, lumbering, trading or other purposes.”
Plus there are some allotment for education..., buildings..., blah..., blah.., blah..., signed sealed and delivered (via canoe). What I can’t believe a couple of years ago that we actually celebrated this document that surrendered so much and if that wasn’t enough..., resigned that sucker..., a treaty we got so little. There is something else I can’t understand when the Liberal government tried to erase all of our rights in 1967 with the white paper and treat us like a visible minority.. These are people that profited billions and billions of dollars annually off the land which we surrendered now wants to take it all.. Talk about greed..., then these Liberals try it again in early 2000... Paul Marten himself said that he supports self government as long as it follows a municipal model.., and we consistantly vote for the Liberal party over and over again... It isn’t the Conservative government I fear..., because they just leave things status quo..., it is the Liberal party..
Interesting document thou... I wonder in 100 years from now would we be any wiser???
Finally, some warm weather 04-14-08
We finally have some warm weather heading our way and it is about time. The other week, that was quite the storm even thou that Sioux missed most of it. I heard that Thunder Bay got dumped on again this past weekend... The sun is shining and finally finished with all the wood cutting for this season. It was a cold long winter.. Burnt more than 12 cords of wood this year and started using the wood stove later this year too boot... This summer gonna start cutting wood so by the fall..., should have at least six cords even before I order the other eight cords. Then I should have enough...
Heading back to Saugeen tomorrow... The place is not what I expected.., very nice community... Had lunch at the Chief’s house..., interesting man. I heard a lot of things over the years about Eddie Machimity but never met the man in person. Some people said he was a “mad” but he is a very intelligent person.. He is doing what is best for his rez.. You wouldn’t find too many chiefs cutting firewood with the crew that’s for sure. What got me the most about this man..., politics has a strange effect of Indian people but this man isn’t effected by it. One of the few people I met in my life like that. He hasn’t got a shred of ego..., you can’t find a more balanced person.
My sis 04-02-08
Donna is on a fast to support the people from Big Trout. They started today and don’t know how long it will go for. I think it is a good idea... Not too much else happening around here. Snow is slowly melting but not as fast as I hoped... Everything is popping up in the alley where I work including underwear..., human feces.., and tons of empty bottles.. They should put an outhouse or something for these guys can go to crap so they're not doing it on the street. It is amazing in Jan and Feb, we weren’t finding frozen Indians all over town..., how can those guys survive out here in the -40C temps. They must have a buddy system or something..., maybe they’re just damn lucky not to freeze to death..
Guitar Hero 03-31-08
It is the last day of this fiscal year..., what does it mean for me..., nothing really... Just another day in the life of Dave. Played some Guitar Hero on X-Box360 this weekend. The Graeme Cracker picked up the game. For me..., I think it would be better if he picked up one of the guitars laying around the house and started learning. Kinda reminded me of that episode of the Simpson where Bart and Lisa did not want to do yard work but play it on a game..., well..., you can guess the rest. It doesn’t take much to play the guitar..., just a few bar cords and you’re off and running..., learn some scales..., voila.., playing lead... Find a bass player and drummer..., some that can hold a tune...., you have a band... Oh well..., if I was a punk in today’s world..., I would do the same..., I think anyways..., but probably not..., I doubt my parents would spring for that... The real question is would I have bought a guitar or video game???
This is interesting..., the water vapor spewing from Saturn's moon Enceladus shows it is gushing with organic stuff (molecules) which increases the possibility of life existing somewhere in the Saturn system. They found fountain of water there in 2005. Now they've identified a soup of prebiotic material (carbon based crap). Nobody really knows how life began, but astrobiologists guess it required chemicals like those tasted by Cassini, a little liquid water and some unknown spark..., God maybe. Astrobiologists eh..., I just wonder how many run to that field...
How about this..., if Martian life existed a few billion years ago, scientists think any plant-like microbes would have left behind a stringy fuzz of fibers. That's because here on Earth, researchers now say they have found such ancient fuzz, called cellulose, preserved in chunks of salt deposited more than 250 million years ago making it the oldest biological substance yet recovered. The announcement comes about a week after a team of planetary scientists announced discovering evaporated salt deposits on Mars and adds another element of hope to the search for alien life or signs of its past biology.
So that would mean that with the elements of life found in our solar system..., that there is an excellent chance of life developed in other places in our galaxy and universe... There are a lot of stars out there with a lot of distance... I think these life forms ever developed into a higher form of thinking (like us I suppose).., space..., time and distance would be a major obstacle to overcome... Space is actually a pretty dangerous place and you have to know what you are doing... Look what kind of production we have to put on just for our own orbit. These things like warm holes..., etc..., are just from our wild imagination..., nothing more... For worm holes to exist in space.., there has to be mass..., gravity and energy present in a dense form...., which would be way to lethal for a simple carbon based life form such as humans. Life yes..., aliens from other planets visiting us.., not very likely..
Umm 03-27-08
Just think’n..., I don’t think they’ll do to us as they did to the Iraqis but the influence and manipulation power they do have. Geez..., Saddam was one of the most moderate proactive guys in that whole region yet they made him to the eyes of most people the “anti-Christ” of our generation. There were much greater evils done by the majority of the countries in the middle east but all of them are American allies so none of that ever gets reported by the main stream media. If I go to anyone..., call anyone..., email anyone..., I bet cha over 90% would say that Saddam was a madman. The only mistake that he did wrong was nationalize the oil. There is no politics or do the right thing..., it’s all economics...
That is something to think about for our leadership... When we go block all there roadways like the 400 series of highways..., do you think we will actually gain the support of the Canadian people while sitting in their cars in 40 C of heat... Will they be rooting for us or cursing??? These master manipulators will exploit that without a doubt...
Umm..., if your wondering what I am talking about..., read the previous blog...
Just pisses me off, that’s all 03-25-08
This is an article I first read in Knet news posted by Brian... OTTAWA (Canwest News Service) "Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal. Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas. The U.S. military's Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.”
“Civil Emergency” eh..., back to the old issue of resolving Canada of it’s Indian problem. Now we have the barrel of the American military pointing at us. Look at the disaster that is happening in Iraq..., geez..., now those suckers have their sights on us.... The States has thee strongest military in the whole entire world who have fought countless of wars since World War II now needs Canada’s help to address civil unrest in it’s own country..., I don’t think so... That military agreement is meant for First Nations people of Canada. I will tell you what is happening since February 14, 2008..., the American Military with the CIA has accessed information each and every registered Aboriginal person in Canada (not that they had that before but now it has meaning) and evaluating if we are hostile or not... Hostile being as long as you think you are entitled to any treaty right and express it outward..., you will be consider hostile to the state.. So if you’re an apple..., you’re in the clear... (who would have thought that would have been a bonus to being an apple)
So what are we going to do about it as a whole..., nothing..., nothing at all... Since those guys got here..., we have done nothing to protect ourselves or our children... We just roll over and play dead hoping this mess that has engulfed the lives of so many people will go away by itself..., we have only ourselves to blame... Just pisses me off..., that’s all...
Spring Equinox 03-20-08
Today is the spring equinox..., where there is 12 hours of daytime and night... It was a cold winter..., even those nay sayers of “scientists” say so... So cold the ice sheet in the arctic has come back.., but in their words..., for now and tentative..., what ever that means... Finally seen 10,000 BC... It was ok of a movie..., simple plot..., nothing too complicated..., not like other movies when you miss a line..., you’re lost the whole entire movie... Cloverfield..., that was a hard movie to watch... Not because of the script or the movie but the way it was filmed..., it’s like watching the Blair Witch with a couple of more bucks thrown into the movie... I think Blair Witch Project was $60,000 while Cloverfield was 25 million.. Guess it costs a little more because you have to glue the Statue of Liberty head back on after their done filming.., quite the daunting task...., need lots of crazy glue... Cloverfield was something like The Mist and I am Legend..., has knock off written all over it... Yup...
Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day 03-18-08
Woe and behold I’ve become a wood scavenger. No more felling, de-limbing and bucking up trees for me..., just cruise the sites where the loggers have been..., just load and pile for me... Pretty neat huh... Seen a huge lynx when I was out there..., crap that sucker was almost the size of a cougar...., that was one BIG cat..., so gave him half my sandwich..., whole wheat..., the only way to be..., more fiber...
Happy belated St Pat’s Day... Geez how times have changed... If I went around saying that God said this to me or that.., I would be branded insane..., mad..., crazy nut or a flake..., but this guy gets Sainthood because he was born 1500 years before me. Now tell me if that is fair. You would think that with more people on the Earth than 1500 years plus that saints would be appearing from all facets of society but they’re not..., I wonder why...
My ticket 03-12-08
Well I finally figured out my ticket to being a billionaire..., took a lot of think’n but I think I have it... It sounds simple enough..., if nature can do it..., why can’t I... Just create these aliphatic hydrocarbon chains...., which is just hydrogen and carbon chains with some thermal energy and voila..., a combustible renewable fuel... The way this happens out there is these plants take some water.., sunlight..., carbon and hydrogen which produce these carbon chains. Add a little of the earth’s pressure and a couple of millions years you have crude oil.. The way I figure it.., I am just taking out the middle man.., nature... What has nature done for me lately anyways... Umm..., just to think of a name..., Dave’s Gas Bar..., I like it..., I like it a lot...
Umm..., I don’t know what would be the point now anyways... Seems like we have this “death gamma ray” that is pointing directly at us and could go off any second..., well..., in cosmic time which is hundreds of thousands of years to the next moment.. The cause seems to be this fiery pinwheel named WR 104, was discovered eight years ago in the constellation Sagittarius which at its heart a pair of hot, luminous stars locked in orbit with each other. As they circle one another, plumes of streaming gas driven from the surfaces of the stars collide in the intervening space, eventually becoming entangled and twisted into a whirling spiral by the orbits of the stars. The pinwheel rotates in a circle every eight months, keeping precise time but both the massive stars in WR 104 will one day explode as supernovae. Wolf-Rayet stars are regarded as ticking bombs and when the Wolf-Rayet goes supernova, it will emit an intense beam of gamma rays coming our way. Since the initial blast would travel at the speed of light, there would be no warning of its arrival and no Dave’s Gas Bar..
Easter fast approaching 03-10-08
Not too much happening in the land of Sioux. Easter / Passover is quickly approaching. You would think that Jesus’s “death and rising” would always be on the same date. Of all the years I have been on this Earth, no one has ever explained why that is.. From what gather the floating date for Easter has mostly has to do with Passover.
Speaking of Passover..., you know what..., I am seriously considering not eating pig anymore..., no pork..., no ham..., no bacon..., no ribs (Mmm...., ribs..)..., no more pork roast... When “God” was speaking with Moses..., he really cared for the well being of the people of Israel.., told them what to eat... The bottom line was herbivores..., good..., omnivores and carnivores..., bad... The pig is an omnivore... I can’t imagine all the toxins and crap that pig carries in his body... At least with a cow you don’t have to make sure it is cooked all the way through but with a pig..., you get worms... Pretty smart that God...
I think maybe he /she is also a little bias..., not giving the same message to the Gentiles and he did to Moses... When crossing the river Jordan he told them that to take everything and I will kill all the people in front of you.. Don’t take any survivors..., just kill..., kill..., kill..., and the people you kill.., take their crops and live in their homes..., yadda..., yadda..., yadda...., and live well... The message to the Gentiles through Jesus was pretty simple..., give and be submissive... and I will get back to you on that... It seems like quite the paradox in messages... Perhaps there was a mix up in the message from God.., to Jesus...., to the Apostles..., to us... We all tried that in the classrooms..., passing a message around..., and once all the way around..., it changed... Who knows..., but it is a paradox...
How about that huh 03-07-08
As we get ready to spring ahead..., ahead of spring..., day savings crap..., a new data has actually found that we are burning more electricity this way than the old way. What a friggen gyp. I thought the whole concept of moving daylight savings time ahead was to save on electricity, not too burn more. Guess more people are saving on lighting but air-conditioning units had to run more often, because people were home on hot afternoons when they'd otherwise be still at the office (guess the deep south..., like my sister from Alabama) and heaters had to be run more longer in the mornings when people got up and it was still dark outside. It is estimated that it is costing consumers an extra 5 to 10 bucks a day doing this. The further you went up north, the higher the cost. So not only do I lose an extra hour of sleep, my electric bill will be more...
The Graeme cracker is on his way to Sudbury via..., Via Rail.. That sucker was 6 plus hours late. Every time we called they said 15 more minutes... It’s no wonder no one wants to take the train anymore. I remember waiting for a train in Helsinki..., the trains were so accurate that it was right to the minute. I remember once I was waiting with Osmo and the train was a 3 minutes late then Osmo turns to me and says the trains are really running late today. So Graeme is off to Sudbury then somewhere in the States for March break. Miss the guy already..., what I am going to do with all this extra time that I use to nag him to get out of bed..., do this..., do that... I can see the emptiness that people feel when their kids leave the nest..., but at 18..., they all get the boot out the door. I can deal with it...
When will this winter end 03-06-08
I am just wondering when will this friggen winter end. Just got two more cords of wood and that’s almost gone already. After that is done.., that is 12 cords of wood..., not the face cord but the 4x4x8 cords... Over the next few days gonna have to pick more up... Our plow guy kinda pissed me off..., he started plowing the driveway before the snow fell..., aren’t you suppose to wait for the snow to fall first... Got into an argument with the owner of the coffee shop on front street... I get their dark roast with a shot of expresso but I think they are ripping me off..., and not because their coffee is so water downed that you can see right through it but their expresso... If I get a shot of expresso and a large coffee separate, it costs me about 3 bucks..., but if I get them together..., it should cost less because I am getting less coffee..., then she says her prices are cheaper than the cities..., blah..., blah..., blah..., crap..., which cities are those..., Fairbanks..., Moscow..., Beijing... The cities where I go (like am I well traveled, T-Bay, Winterpeg is about it)..., I get a darker stronger roast..., more expresso and a larger cup for cheaper... What a gyp..., so anyways..., brewing my own again... Just got lazy the past few months... My french press with freshly crushed expresso beans seems to be stronger..., darker and stronger than that crap they try and push on me...
Deer hunters wanted 03-04-08
It seems all across the province the deer population is bursting thourgh the seams..., and these guys think it is bad news for the moose population... Umm..., wasn’t it last year they were blaming the declining moose population on global warming..., then it was the wolf population... How about the loss of habitat, herbicidal spraying and hunting as a reason... I think that would have more of an impact than deer, wolves or “global warming” combined. So what is the solutions they are looking at..., shoot the f*ckers..., or better said.., kill more deer... I really don’t think killing more deer is the answer... You would think by now that we would have learnt our lesson... We always seem to get into trouble when we try and manage or manipulate nature but if they want to shoot more deer..., I am in..., freezer is getting a little low...
Cool day in the Sioux this morning..., a bone chilling -31 C..., and with the wind chill..., a freezing -31 C... I always wonder why in the summer.., they never use the wind chill... Something like..., it is a hot day out there..., 35 C but with the wind chill..., it feels like 25 C so it is not so bad... I guess it is all about effect and making something sound worse than it is...
It sounds to me like do or die for Hilary tonight... I hope she gets in and not Obama... Hilary or the Clinton’s have been good to Indians..., but Obama..., these blacks or Afro-Americans always seem to think they had it rough coming to the Americas..., they get more money than us..., etc etc..., always have a good sob story to share..., and it did piss me off when Obama said America is a nation of immigrants..., hey..., I am not an immigrant..., same with 25 million of us... I know it is a small fraction but still we are here... Where is our story of 90 million of us disappearing since the arrival of the Europeans..., trail the tears..., lost land..., lost culture..., genocide..., poverty..., highest suicide rates..., highest unemployment... If they want a hard luck story..., they should try walking a mile in our ancestors shoes...At least they have a homeland to return to if they wanted..., but they want to stay and live in this so called “oppressed society’... They should call themselves lucky to be here because it is not an easy life in most African nations. If we wanted our homeland back..., we would have to deal with removing over 500 million peoples from the Americas..., which is no easy task and next to impossible. At least Hilary recognizes Aboriginal people...
By the way..., they also tried to make slaves of us too..., but we choose death..., which really do make poor workers... (I could imagine what they thought..., damn it, damn it damn it..., lost another crew..., damn Indians..., now how am I going to get this crop to market)
Vista sucks and my extra day 03-02-08
You learn something new everyday and if you’re a pirate..., the new Vista isn’t for you. Microsoft..., a.k.a. Bill Gates had made Vista a little more unfriendly if you want to pirate your music and movies. When you transfer or record your music / movies from analog to digital..., now you get this huge fuzzing or background noise... It won’t be too bad on music because most tunes do not have these gaps but movies is another story. Any dead air won’t be so dead now..., just white noise.. The problem is for people who don’t pirate..., when they make an audio and movie track..., the quality will suck... Another reason not to switch to the new Vista format...
It seems we all had an extra day Friday..., crap..., I spent mine at work... So we leaped another day again..., next one is 2012..., getting close to the end of the Mayan Calender and to some..., the end of the world... Now..., 2012 does have a freaky sound to it... 2000..., 2005..., 2008 all have a regular sound to it but something about that 2012... It sounds like some futuristic date but that is only one more leap year away...
Now some scientists have figured out what’s up with Venus..., why this sucker turns the wrong why and has mostly carbon in it’s atmosphere..., and 10 times as much argon than Earth... When the solar system was forming..., two bodies about the same size as Mars which share the same orbit as Venus smashed into each other and voila Venus... When Earth had it’s collision with the moon..., it didn’t hit each other dead on but on the side... With Venus..., these guys hit head on... When this happened..., all the hydrogen went into outer space and all the oxygen went to the core bonding with things like iron... If things were a little different for Venus..., who knows.., it could have been a excellent place to live with water and all we need... Interesting huh..., it could have been our backup... Now we are stuck on this rock until we find a new one...
Best haircut ever 02-27-08
Was in the big city of Winnipeg last week (or was it)... Took some phrasorlator training with these folks from California. That was some freeze your ass off weather in Winnipeg and people called it cold here..., try pumping gas in that wind and compare... Too boot...., had my mop trimmed..., best hair cut ever I admit..., Portage Place is the only place for me... Had to answer some tough questions like how do I style my hair..., crap..., I don’t even bother combing it anymore..., where it lays..., it stays..., so I just said yup like I didn't hear... So my ears had no place to hide in that frigid temps...
Some happy news..., a new calculation predicts that Earth will be swallowed up by the sun in 7.6 billion years, capping off a longstanding debate over whether the sun's gravitational pull will have weakened enough for Earth to escape final destruction or not. Other theorists have predicted that our planet will fry as the sun expands in its old age. But the time estimates have varied by a couple billion years. Umm..., sounds like a plan to me..., something to look forward too... I say this sucker will fry then just be an empty rock after that..., life in the sun is way too hot for me...
I hate this story 02-17-08
Most people were probably taught this story in school about Columbus... Blah.., blah..., blah..., he came over to the “New World”.., yadda..., yadda..., yadda..., on his forth trip he found himself up shit creek without a paddle... He left Cádiz, Spain on May 11, 1502, with the ships Capitana, Gallega, Vizcaína and Santiago de Palos. Then shipworms starting eating holes in the planking of his fleet, Columbus' was forced to abandon two of his ships and finally had to beach his last two caravels on the north coast of Jamaica on June 25, 1503. Initially, the locals welcomed the ship wrecked crew, providing them with food and shelter, but as the days dragged into weeks, tensions mounted. Finally the crew robbed and murdered the natives, who, then grew weary of Columbus’s men stopped supplying cassava, corn and fish in exchange for little tin whistles, trinkets, hawk's bells and other rubbishy goods. So what does Columbus do..., he reads an almanac where in February 29, 1504 says that there will be a lunar eclipse... Tells the local Natives the “Christian” God is angry for not giving all to the whiteman so be will make the moon disappear (or something like that).. So the lunar eclipse happens..., blah..., blah.., blah..., the locals gave all they had to Columbus.., goes in history books... and we’re all taught in school..., end of story...
I hate this friggen story... It gives the impression that we as Native people didn’t know anything. The great whiteman with their vast knowledge was able to trick the simple Indian... Our own kids are taught this story and actually some of us start believing them... Mel Gibson’s movie is another bad one..., all painting a picture of Native people in a negative way... Well..., someone needs to set things right...
Hopefully soon 02-16-08
I really need to start changing this page around.., looking for a new look. It was ok a few years back but now... Need to develop some new templates... Waiting for my other pages to be switched over to Tony’s new server. Once that happens, I want to do a major overhaul to those pages too. Not too much else new around here. Finally getting back to the level I was at in September with the weights. Nice to get back. My wood guy says there lots of wood to be had (10 foot) east of Sioux. Sure beats cutting..., delimbing, dicing up.., hauling..., good when those sucks are right by the road ready for hauling... Might take a trip out there in a couple of days. Over the next day or so, gonna try and get more of this x-mas stuff off my page. Having a hard time this time around... Yup..
Yikes 02-13-08
Now I know how it feels like when a server goes down... The CAAR / SLAAMB server went down this morning for a bit... Thank GOD I got that sucker up and running again..., and while I was trying to figure out the crash..., I crashed it myself..., lol..., so now I know the cause so I won’t go there anymore... Two programs were trying to use the same port..., just get along already..., can’t you just share... That is enough excitement for one day...
On Monday is Family Day so my family is off to Thunder Bay to celebrate Family Day without me... I think Ground Hog Day or St. Valentine’s would have been a better idea for a holiday than Family Day but I guess they needed to name it something... Well..., nothing really happens in February..., guess it is too damn cold outside..., nothing better to do than procreate..., which it should be better named Create a Family - Day and have it overlap with St. Valentine’s Day..., give the day off and keep the kids in school... Now that is a creative holiday...
I need a haircut bad 02-11-08
It seems we are back into the deep freeze once again. Crap this morning it was a cool -35 C..., and with the windchill a freezing -35 C... Graeme had a hockey tournament in Dryden this past weekend. On Saturday morning when I got up..., it was around - 5 C or there abouts..., in the evening.., crap it was cold and the wind was relentless... I need a haircut bad. On Friday got pulled over by the Dryden Police Force.., asking me where I was going..., what I was doing..., etc... Being the good Indian I said to Dryden and asked his permission to continue on.., nah.., I told him it was none of his business which it wasn’t.. That is why I think I need a haircut..., to avoid this racial profiling... I guess I can try and look a little better but now I am thinking you can put an Indian into any car and it will turn that car into an Indian car... Oh well..., I can say at least the cop wasn’t too bad about it even thou it wasn’t a good reason to pull me over.. I remember growing up in Mattice and living in Timmins.., those cops were racists and frigg’n assholes... This cop wasn’t an ass..., more ignorant in a good way if there such a thing...
We got our first sun spot of this 11 year cycle... Somehow I think that it has to do with the output of the sun’s energy that is the cause of this global warming than anything else. The fact that other celestial bodies like Mars..., the gas giants with their moons..., etc are getting warmer too..., plus we are only 12,000 years of 100,000 into this warming cycle then it is onto another ice age. There must be a cycle to that 11 year cycle that brings more energy to the sun’s surface then retreats once again... The only problem is the data we have is rather “new”.. We have a fair idea what the temps were in the past but all ballpark figures. We still don’t know the cause of the global warming and cooling cycles that have been going on for millions of years on this planet. What I can’t seem to find anywhere is scientific data that says how much thermal energy does carbon hold..., add that to at least ten times more argon in my atmosphere than carbon..., argon being less than 1% of the total atmosphere... I don’t know..., to me the numbers just don’t add up to say that it is carbon is the cause of global warming. It seems the scientific community involved with the news media are ignoring these other factors... There is some spin going on somewhere...
Oh well...
“As long as the arctic stays cold” 08-02-08
Just frigg’n great.., that’s all we need... This morning I was watching this documentary named “The Blob” made in 1958... Guess this blob came from outer space and the only way they could control it was using carbon dioxide from fire extinguishers... Guess the cold from the fire extinguishers shrunk it down to a more manageable state. At the end they dropped this Blob in the arctic and the last line was..., “ Yeah, as long as the arctic stays cold”..., then a big question mark appeared on the TV screen... How about that huh.., not only we have to worry about the polar bears losing their habitat but now the blob coming back to life... What a world.., what a world...
There is a new word out there these days..., carbon credits... So how do I buy these carbon credits..., is it as good as money? How does it work..., the more you burn..., the more you get... Does it work like Canadian Tire money..., where can I redeem these carbon credits... The only real irony is that we are carbon.., the houses we live in is carbon..., the garden we grow.., the food we eat..., all carbon..., your best friend..., carbon..., your dog..., your cat..., all carbon... So if you kill a carbon based life form..., axe someone (literally)..., do you get carbon credits for that too... These things I need to know but something must be done to eradicate carbon from our planet. I am sure if we put my minds to it..., a solution can be found to eliminate the evil carbon menace forever... I am all for that...
On another note..., this weekend Graeme has a hockey tournament in Dryden. It should be alright..., I need to get a haircut... I think the last of the cold weather is gone. Nice to see the days getting long and longer.., which means spring is just around the corner.. It is too bad I didn’t get to do any skiing this year which kinda sucks big time..., umm..., yup...
It is frigg’n cold out there 30-01-08
I have to admit that it is cold out there. Yesterday morning it was kinda warm but when I went out at 9:00ish last night..., f*ck that was frigg’n cold. I still say that growing up in Mattice / Hearst / Constance Lake was the coldest... A day like today was the norm when I was a young punk There was no such thing as a wind chill..., when it was -45 C.., it was -45 C..., not - 25 C BUT with the wind chill..., -35 C.... Even then, Fort Severn..., that is cold. That wind just never stops coming in from the coast. By the way..., James and Hudson Bays are not Bays..., but seas..., it should be Hudson Sea and James Sea... How would I go about changing that.
Donna seems to having a good time in Israel..., swimming in the dead sea..., seeing where Sol’s wife turn to salt..., the pile is still there..., imagine that..., going to the Gaza strip..., running over the border to Egypt pick up some supplies..., the usual stuff..., gas..., food..., clothes... , seeing where Gabriel spoke to Mary... I told Donna to bring back some dirt because that seems like the thing to do because I seen so many people do it... This got me thinking..., now..., was it because of the land where the Jews were living.., the reason why they were picked by God..., or was it the tribes were picked by God and it just so happened that was the place they were living... If it was the land..., then the land (dirt) would be holy but if it was the tribe..., shouldn’t these people be bringing back a Jew... Something to ponder...
Pretty proud of my sis thou..., being selected from 10 Aboriginal women from across Canada. It is suppose to be on leadership training but it is more than that. Imagine being in one of the most influential parts of the world in terms of how we think as a society..., 6.5 billion of us think as a whole..., good and bad... Islam, Christianity and Judaism can trace their roots where Donna is now... Not bad eh...
Asteroid to pass near Earth on January 29 - 01-27-08
An asteroid about the size as several football fields will fly past Earth on January 29, 2008. They say asteroid will be visible the night of Jan. 29 to amateur astronomers with modest-sized telescopes.., like mine I guess. Named 2007 TU24, the asteroid was discovered by NASA's Catalina Sky Survey on Oct. 11, 2007. It is estimated to be somewhere between 500 feet to 2,000 feet in diameter. It will come about 335,000 miles from Earth..., which the moon is about 240,000 miles... Anything that comes closer than 240,000 miles is consider to be dangerously close to Earth and has the potential of striking us. Something like this would create a hole about 3 miles wide so you could imagine the damage it would do.
Something that hit Siberia in the early 1900's is about the same size. It is called the he Tunguska Event. At around 7:17 a.m., Tungus natives and Russian settlers in the hills northwest of Lake Baikal observed a column of bluish light, nearly as bright as the Sun, moving across the sky. About 10 minutes later, there was a flash and a loud knocking sound similar to artillery fire that went in short bursts spaced increasingly wider apart. Eyewitnesses closer to the explosion reported the sound source moving during each barrage, east to north. The sounds were accompanied by a shock wave that knocked people off their feet and broke windows hundreds of miles away. Now that is something we can expect if this sucker hit the Earth. So if you see a huge light running past the sky, run for the hills...
Now listen to this...., asteroid 1999 AN10 will come 19,000 miles from the Earth. This potentially hazardous rock will pass particularly close to the Earth on August 7, 2027. If it doesn’t hit us then..., that sucker will pass around for a second shot in 2039 or 2044/2046... Why..., if it doesn’t hit us on August 7, 2027 ..., the pass might bring it closer to the path of Earth because of the gravity pull that Earth emits on 1999 AN10. Always nice to know huh... Does this asteroid have humanities name on it???
Sioux Storm 17-01-08
The Sioux Storm, Graeme’s hockey team is off to Red Lake for a tournament. It is first for him. He should do ok..., really picking up on hockey. Ethan shouldn’t be too far behind him, has his stick, skates and the attitude. It seems our population is booming..., Indians and more Indians everywhere which is a good thing..., maybe we’ll breed them out. I’ll do what I can to contribute. Taking one for the team...
Back to the old grind 07-01-08
It is back to the old grind after two weeks off. Woke up in good spirits this morning. Happy that I started lifting again after a 4 month layoff. Surprised to see rain yesterday. I know when I was a teenager, rain in the middle of winter was seen as a blessing because it make life a lot easier for trapping..., you can just take your sled just about anywhere. Those were the days... Umm..., looking to 08..., I think 08 will be a better year then 07..., which 06, 05 and 04 was a disaster. Things are looking up... Gonna drop the link to my archive pretty soon..., after I post my.., umm..., let’s say..., well..., it’ll be on-line soon enough.. Yup...
Five days into 08 05-01-08
Well we are five days into 2008..., that’s eight years of none smoking..., how about that huh. I don’t see myself ever smoking again..., well.., with the exception of a good double corona or a good pipe smoke. Christmas was another good one. Curt and Tina was down from Kingston.., fired up some fireworks on New Years Eve..., except that we didn’t point them up..., we pointed them strait into the bush. That was something else seeing the bush lighting up like that. Started lifting in early December but got sick when I traveled to Winnipeg. Bummer..., so I took another break but will get back into it again today. Bought myself a preacher curl bench so my gym is almost compete. Would still like to get a smith machine but might have to wait on that one. Finally picked up my amp in Thunder Bay..., placed that sucker on layaway. It is a nice amp..., 120 watts... Now just to buy a mike and stand... Graeme Cracker will be back tomorrow.
Happy New Year 01-01-08
I would like to wish all my family and friends a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
First day of winter 21-12-07
It is the first day of winter and it looks like it will be a cold one. I thought last year was cold..., but this year will be colder mesa tinks.. So anyways..., Graeme is off to spend some time with his mother..., umm..., having some company over for the holidays..., umm..., Isabella and Ethan are a little under the weather..., that’s about it. While in Thunder Bay, I hope to see “I am Legend” again..., that was a good movie..., one of the best I ever seen...
Last day of days getting shorter 20-12-07
Tomorrow is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. I found an interesting article on the Mayan Calender which ends December 21, 2012. Some people see this as a prediction for the end of the Earth..., umm..., not Earth, end of humanity to put it more precisely... Other people think it is nonsense. I think it is something but what, I don’t know.. Well this article says this “Tree of Life” is actually a sky map. The Sacred Tree is found to be the crossing point of the ecliptic with the band of the Milky Way where we would be on Dec 21, 2012 at high noon which relates to current sky maps of today. How about that huh... They started this calender around 679 B.C. and from that date they were able to pin point the sky map of Dec 21, 2012. Isn’t that amazing.. I knew they were advanced but nothing like this.
Donna to Israeli 19-12-07
I want to wish my sister Donna the best. She has been selected by Assembly of First Nations to participate along with 9 other Native women from across Canada in this “Leadership” training in Israeli. How about that huh. She is heading out on January 19, 2008 and her sessions start on the 21st of January. I was looking for some travel guides for Donna..., and you know what..., hardly anything on the Middle East. Guess it isn’t a popular travel designation. I told her to take a lot of pictures..., don’t get on any public transportation..., and if you see people running for their lives..., RUN!!! I sure she’ll be alright. Good show Donna!!!
Praserlator 07-12-07
We had a pretty neat demonstration of this thing called a phaserlator. The Americans invented this device when they invaded Iraqi. It is a pocket translator which you click the English verison on the screen and it says in the Arabic language. Kinda makes you wonder what they had programmed into these suckers. Kinda reminds me of the movie “Mars Attacks” when these Martians were running around with the Martian translation device saying “do not run, we are your friends”..., wonder if it was like that..
Wawatay 04-12-07
Has it been eleven years already..., so it has I guess... The sun is starting a new cycle of..., umm..., don’t know what this solar cycle is call but anyways..., if you have noticed the Northern Lights aren’t as active as they usually are the past couple of years is because of this solar cycle.. You have these strings running from the polar regions of the sun from end to end... Because the sun is turning faster (less distance to travel) in the polar region than the mid section, these magnetic strings get all tangled up.. The more tangled up..., the more solar activity..., yadda.., yadda..., yadda..., more solar flares..., more solar winds..., thus more Northern Lights.. Then somehow it goes back to normal to start up again...
I think this page here keeps on brain turning into mush..., which is a good thing I think... Well I know what to call my personal beliefs now..., monotheism transcendence..., which basically means one God that transcends space and time... It sounds simple enough.., wonder if that is enough to start a new Church??? Any takers??? but anyways been thinking a lot of religion lately... Somehow in terms of daily life (you know..., eating.., breathing..., sleeping..., functioning..., etc..) it doesn’t really matter if you’re a Atheist..., Agnostic..., Muslim..., Christian..., Jewish..., Hindu..., Buddhist..., or whatever (referring to me), it does not have any bearing of your life. So it seems to me that it is more your actions and environment (including genetic) that determines your fate...
Only in death we will find out the answer..., which kinda sucks because so many religions based their theology on dogmatism..., either you’re born right or wrong... Hard to say because all of them go have their good points.., inner peace in Buddhism and Hinduism..., praying all the time in Islam..., I am right and you are wrong in Christianity..., oppss..., I mean to say “I am the way - Jesus”... Just for me..., dogmatism isn’t for me... Religion is suppose to based on very strong moral and ethical code but yet we live in a society that ethics are based on our own personal convenience... Well..., what can you do when you live in a shoe... I would like to go through the Koran next.., geez..., can’t they make these books any shorter..., like something in bullet form would do me great..., I just want the meat and potatoes...
Last day of the month 30-11-07
It is the last day of the month means the countdown to Christmas begins tomorrow. This weekend I hope to have some things up but what I really want is a 9 foot Christmas Tree..., that’ll be something.. Never had the opportunity to have a tree like that before. The outside lights are on every evening now for a couple of hours. Went for a short drive down Drayton Road and there was only a couple of other houses that have their lights on. Umm..., too early perhaps... This is the best season to live in Northeastern Ontario ( or as they call themselves, Northern Ontario while we’re Northwestern but anyways). The French Canadians really go all out and I mean all out for Christmas. The houses in Timmins.., Hearst..., Kap..., Mattice..., it is an amazing thing to see... Around here..., it is ok..., but nothing like there... Being English must suck the life out of you or something... People here just don’t have the same spirit...
I attended my first Economic Development Strategy Sub-committee meeting last night. It was interesting to see..., such a formal scene for a sub-committee... See what happens I guess... Sounds interesting enough to spark my interest...
Just reading some crap on another theory of the land bridge thing-a-ma-jig..., the 12,000 year assumption.. Some people are just determined to make that date stick even thou more and more evidence is surfacing that Aboriginal people have been here thousands and thousands of years before the land bridge crap... I don’t know why they don’t look at the whole picture. The only reason I can see why these certain people are trying so hard to make the date stick is because it is easier to displace people that only been here for 12,000 years rather than 50,000 or 60,000 years..
That wasn’t expected 25-11-07
I watched “The Mist” last night. I must admit that ending was not as I expected but none the less a good show..., poor sucker..., you’ll know what I mean if you watch the show. I think “30 Days of Night” was the better movie but this was ok. I was hoping to see Saw IV.., wondering how jigsaw came back to life from apparently dying from cancer in Saw III. Who knows..., you just can't kill these guys can you..., not like Davy Jones... Well Christmas is now 30 days away. Started some of my X-mas shopping but still long way to go yet. Yup... Oh.., yes..., it is good to be alive and well..., thanks for signing Kathy..., long time no see eh...
Leonid Meteor Shower Peaks This Weekend 17-11-07
If you have nothing better to do with your time, Leonid meteor shower peaks this weekend. The meteors will appear to originate from the constellation Leo but I would not focus on that area but keep looking..., umm...., up..., opposed to down I guess... Because Leo does not start coming fully into view until after midnight, that would be the best time to look for these suckers..., irregardless after midnight are generally best for watching for "shooting stars" anyway. So that’s my agenda for the weekend..., the life of a wannabe astronomer... Oh.., while looking up..., you should take a peak at Comet Holmes..., it should be about the middle of the sky...
Comet Holmes larger than the sun 16-11-07
This is something new. They say that this comet (size including the coma or the dust around it) is now bigger than the sun with the recent explosion of gas. The coma's diameter on Nov. 9 was 1.4 million kilometers, based on measurements from the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy. They used observations from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. The sun's diameter is 1.392 million kilometers. How about that huh... It doesn’t have the same mass as the sun or it would wreak havoc on our solar system like toss planets around like dust in the wind..., well we all are dust in the wind... (umm..., isn’t that a Kansas song???)
But anyways..., this mysterious explosion..., well.., not one knows why it happened..., it just did. A few hundred years ago we would have thought it was a sign from above..., usually a bad omen of sorts like death to mankind..., but wasn’t it before the Mayan civilizational fell that a comet was seen just before hand too foretelling the end... Umm..., makes you kinda wonder huh... Lots to prepare for... Good thing I went through the whole bible recently... I learnt a shit load of things that you would think mesa would know from going to church every Sunday as a youth or speaking with other people who are fluent (or are suppose to be) in the bible. It seems to me what they do and say compared to what is written doesn’t match... You would think using the bible as your foundational blueprint to prepare you for the afterlife, you would follow the bible more closely...
This is what I learnt... When God spoke to Moses, he was very pragmatic when he spoke to the Tribes of Israeli... Don’t eat dead animals on the side of the road..., when sick leave town until you are better or you’ll get other people sick..., if you’re rich..., offer more..., if you’re poor offer less..., don’t eat your kids..., don’t sit too close to the TV..., stuff like that... Very useful things when you are wondering around the desert... Those are good qualities when looking for a deity..., one who cares for it’s people... Now Jesus on the other hand.., well..., he wasn’t as pragmatic as when God was speaking with Moses... Sure love thee neighbor..., yadda.., yadda..., yadda..., but Jesus didn’t even talk about how to achieve peace of mind or inner peace. In fact you didn’t even have to bother with meditating any more..., just one simple our father then you were good to go... Jesus never spoke of how to operate a church..., he didn’t even say worship him as a God.., but this is the foundation of Christianity... How can you ignore what is written in all those books then operate a Church claiming to be the Church of God stating you are deriving all your info from the bible... I just don’t get it..., it doesn’t make sense to me... Maybe someone can explain it to me and I’ll get it sooner or later...
Well most likely this Comet Holmes explosion is nothing but an explosion from a comet with no ominous signs what so ever but if it is something and all we all meet our doom..., I am putting all my money on Moses..., sorry Mom... (not that I have anything against Jesus..., nothing wrong with what he said) Either all of you are going to hell and I am not..., or I am the only one going to hell and you’re not. Either way.., it will be a lonely place.
Google this 11-11-07
It seems that time of year again is getting closer and closer. I managed to get up my star and some lights up early this year. Not for sure yet what else I am going to add. Ready to spark up the stove again for another year. That sucker will run none stop til April next year... Get a lot of milage out of that stove. Tomorrow I have off... I feel bad for the suckers who have to work and go to school tomorrow... I don’t know why they make people work..., well..., don’t want to get into it... Might hurt someone’s feelings again and get my page suspended..
Reading some crap on how employers are now googling perspective employees and going as far as creating facebook accounts. I say that is none of your friggen business and google this...
I think the snow is here to stay 07-11-07
It is pretty chilly out there now and I think the snow is here to stay. The good news is that in a few more weeks, if we’re lucky..., they’ll start grooming the trails for another skiing season. Looking forward to that but been pretty inactive the past few weeks. Hard to get back into it. I know it will be brutal the first time I head out. I guess the Catholics (Christians) are too much for the Gram Cracker so I am sending him to public school system. Just wondering how I go about that. One thing about the public school..., they have Native language course..., and they seem to have more money than the Christians for some strange reason...
Speaking of Christians..., Christmas comes to mind... I do wonder how many people actual know the true history of Christmas... It is suppose celebrate the birth of Christ but...., I don’t see any mention anywhere of Christmas Trees.., lights..., and even how to celebrate Christmas in the bible... It is ironic that Christmas follows so many pagan rituals.., some of which the bible really..., (and I mean REALLY) frowns upon (ei human sacrifice). Also it does match the old Roman celebration of Saturnalia... This was a brutal holiday where for a whole 8 days..., you can go nuts..., and I mean nuts without any accountability for your actions... If you had a grudge against someone..., that would be the time to kill the poor sucker and no one would think the less of you... It just seem odd that between December 25th and January 1st is 8 days..., that was the time they celebrated Saturnalia.. Interesting huh...
Irregardless..., I think it is a great time of year. I think it is a good thing that our society has taken some bad things and made a good thing out of it but then again..., it would create a window for some serious payback time... I tell yah that there are a few people I wouldn’t mind smacking in the head... Ahh..., to dream... If society ever crumbles. .., those people better pray they don’t come across my path :-) Nah..., I would probably give them a good boot in the ass.., then maybe a good smack..., hmm..., a boot to the face perhaps..., knock out some teeth..., and stop there..., umm..., or would I??? But anyways...
So all the Christmas displays are out... Seeing what else I could add to my village... I seen this ice rink at Rona that would look good. It’s too bad I am living with Ethan the Terrible..., the destroyer of Christmas Trees and pumpkins... Doing the lights on the house this weekend..., along with cutting some wood... Watch for my star.., it’s gonna be good... Yup...
Comet Holmes 05-11-07
If you’re into watching comets..., Comet 17P/Holmes stunned comet watchers and astronomers across planet. On October 24, it increased in brightness over half a million times in a matter of hours. The outburst transformed it from an obscure and faint comet quietly orbiting the Sun with a period of about 7 years to a naked-eye comet rivaling the brighter stars in the constellation Perseus. Holmes' outburst could be due to a sudden exposure of fresh cometary ice or even the breakup of the comet nucleus.
Comet Holmes continues to be an impressive sight to the unaided eye. The comet has diminished in brightness only slightly, and now clearly appears to have a larger angular extent than stars and planets. It has a blue ion tail is created by the solar winds impacting ions in the coma of Comet Holmes and pushing them away from the Sun. Comet Holmes underwent an unexpected and dramatic increase in brightness starting only two weeks ago. The detail visible in Comet Holmes' tail indicates that the explosion of dust and gas that created this dramatic brightness increase is in an ongoing and complex event. Comet Holmes will move only slightly on the sky over during the next month. So if you want to see it for yourself..., look for the constellation Perseus..., upper part of the north east sky. Interesting huh... (for me anyways....)
The Full-full moon 25-10-07
Tonight, those whom have clear skies can enjoy a FULL full moon in which the Moon will reach its full phase within a few hours of perigee, the closest point in its elliptical orbit, making it the largest Full Moon of 2007. Umm..., perigee you say??? Well..., since we are on a different orbital plane than the moon..., the moon actually grows visibly bigger and smaller in the sky throughout the year. On April 3, the Full Moon was within hours of apogee, the farthest point in the lunar orbit, corresponding to the smallest Full Moon of 2007. The difference in apparent size between the largest and smallest Full Moon is quite dramatic..., lunar apogee/perigee is about 350,000 km difference in distance from Earth which makes the perigee moon light 10% brighter. Not enough to drive with your lights off..., (umm..., well you can..., but you’ll be an idiot...). Since the shift in the sky many months apart, the change is difficult to notice. How about that huh...
Thanksgiving Monday 08-10-07
It’s Thanksgiving weekend..., umm..., had turkey..., it was ok.. The Hobbit is scheduled to be released December 1, 2009..., so the waiting begins... Looks like Peter Jackson won’t be the director... Oh well..., guess 250 million wasn’t enough money for him for the LOTR trilogy so he went for more... To me that seems to be a lot of money... He shouldn’t cry..., geez..., considering the type of movies he was making before LOTR and if it wasn’t for John R. R. Tolkien great story..., he would still be making crap... Look at King Kong..., not much magic there... Looking forward to the Hobbit...
It is getting cooler outside.., need to get some wood soon... This year I hope my saw doesn’t crap out on me again... Bummer last year cutting wood with a buck saw..., but good exercise but wouldn’t want to cut 9 cords of wood like that again.. The moose meat was good..., lots of work to get it out thou... Back to lifting next week..., figure a good month to get my traps all ready to go... Now that is my upper traps..., lower traps..., shoulder..., biceps..., wrist..., abs..., and calves..., I pulled so far... Hope that’s it...
Apocalypto 07-10-07
Just finished watching Apocalypto this fine Thanksgiving weekend.., ohh..., Happy Birthday Donna... The movie was ok..., actually the movie itself was good cinematically speaking but I had some problems with it..., some major problems... The Mayans were an advance civilization..., their math and astronomy skills were matched by only other tribes in the Americas but no where else in the world... What I hate is the one sided view of this movie...., the perception of barbaric savagery..., which kinda gives the justification of the extermination of 90% of our population across the Americas... Nothing about the advance irrigation system..., communication system..., calender system... I’m glad this movie only grossed 120 million world wide..., that means not too many people seen it.., relatively speaking...
Pumping daisies 05-10-07
I remember when they launched Sputnik.., I was nineteen at the time..., hey..., wait a second..., that’s not me..., that’s my dad..., but anyways..., yup..., start of the space age... Umm.., I came across a few articles over the past couple of month... Guess some scientists who have nothing better to do with their time are debating if humanity should colonized space.., starting with the moon then Mars..., and onward... I think it is a natural progression... We have to anyways..., for our species..., not only that but all species.., regardless of life, domain and kingdom (guess that goes too with phylum, class, order, family and genus). If you want to talk about global warming.., our sun is about half way through it’s life cycle but when it eats most of it’s hydrogen and uses more helium..., yikes..., it is gonna get friggen hot..., like melt lead hot... By then all life would be gone including all our water... What’s a hominid to do??? colonize spac
